Information on Ayrshire
There is plenty to explore in Ayrshire, including an unspoilt coastline stretching for 80 miles. Ayrshire is also well known for being the birthplace of our world-famous Bard, Robert Burns, who was recently voted The Greatest Scot Ever. Millions off people will sing Burns’ Auld Lang Syne at New Year, which is known worldwide and represents friendship and good cheer.

Experience Burns Country by visiting Burns Cottage in Alloway and the Burns interactive visitor centre. Take a walk over the famous Brig O’Doon (pictured at top of this page). This is the medieval bridge used as the setting for the Robert Burns poem Tam O’ Shanter, where Tam is being chased over the bridge by Nannie the witch!

Ayrshire is also a mecca for golfers and is home to 3 Open Championship courses and 37 other courses.

If you are looking for castles – Ayrshire’s jewel in the crown is the spectacular Culzean Castle (pronounced Culain), which is perched high on a cliff overlooking the Firth of Clyde.

There are plenty of campsites to choose from in Ayrshire, where you can enjoy all of the above attractions.

Information on the Highlands
There are several routes to the Highlands. You may wish to drive to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Then head to historic Glencoe, which is the site of the 1692 massacre, and Highland Clearances. This area is eerie and stunning!
Continue on to Fort William (outdoor capital of the Highlands) where you can see the majestic Ben Nevis range, which is Britain’s highest mountain. From Fort William you have the choice of driving to Inverness, passing Loch Ness (watch out for Nessie, monster of the loch). Alternatively, take the road to Skye, the world’s favourite island, recently voted the 4th best island in the world, by National Geographic Magazine.

A visit to the Grampian region is an excellent touring area. This is where you will find Queen Victoria’s Royal Balmoral Estate and Balmoral Castle. Look out for royal deer and cheeky wee red squirrels. The Grampian area is famous for distilling good malt whisky. Water from the hills and glens is magically transformed into some of the finest malt whiskies, be sure to taste some! Whisky translates to “water of life” from the Gaelic language.

Information on Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a must see for all tourists, the home of Hogmanay and Festivals. With streets steeped in history and a thriving cultural scene. Visit the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. This is the stage for the pomp and ceremony of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and is an unforgettable experience. Floodlit lone pipers, marching bands and military razzmatazz. There is even a few campsites in the city for you to enjoy your stay.

From Edinburgh you may wish drive over the Forth Road Bridge from where you will have an amazing view of the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge, which is one of the most spectacular man-made landmarks in Scotland. Then drive towards Perth and Scone Palace (pronounced Skoon) where Scottish Kings were crowned on the Stone of Scone. From Perth you can drive towards the Grampian Region or Inverness and then head towards the Highlands.

Scotland’s icons are whisky and castles. No matter which route or where you pitch your Motorhome – there’s sure to be a castle near you! (And a whisky trail)

Whatever route you embark on with the Motorhome, you will no doubt observe our beautiful Highland Cattle (hairy coos). Remember - watch out for ‘wild haggis’.
